It's all in the numbers. The vast majority of people DO NOT PAY for porn.

In relation to the amount of porn distributed, the industry is probably only making revenues on a very tiny percent of it. I'd estimate way less than 1% of content distributed creates the industy's money.

However the Internet has become so vast that even generating revenues on a minute % translates into billions of dollars.

Figuring the industry as a whole does about 90,000 paid cc transactions daily that's 2.7 million per month. If you figure 10% of the 5 billion searches per month are porn related, that's 2.7 million per 500 million which works out to .54% for example.
