Everyone's crying for the bums here, but I know your tune would change if you had to step over a sleeping one to walk up the stairs to your own building everyday.
I sure wouldn't be waiting around for one of them to ram a shiv in my back one night so they can steal my wallet to purchase more Thunderbird. Or maybe they're leaving HIV infected needles lying around. Who knows? We're talking about people that sleep on the street for Christ sakes.
My parents tried to help people like that out before and they got robbed blind. Fuck them. There's nothing stopping them from grabbing a phone book from a phone booth and locating help for themselves. If they can buy booze they can sure as hell pay for a phone call.
