I did my lasik operation 2 years ago and here is what I can tell you.
The operation is safe well like any other operation because if you do not qualify they won?t allow you to have it done.
The operation takes less than 20 seconds for each eye
The feel is strange mostly fear but no pain at all
As soon as the operation is done you can immediately see, it was the best feeling to look at the clock they had and be able to see the time.
You feel some heat in your eye and that?s about it. Afterwards the feeling is like wearing contacts for 24 hours. You feel them dry and like a small piece of sand in your eyes. But less than a week you won?t feel anything.
My advice:
1: Relax. The more stressed you are the more you might move
2: do NOT move. I moved a bit and had one eye that took a bit longer to heal
3: follow the instructions given to you. Like ear the glasses, put the eye drops even if you do not feel you need them.
4: Do not rub your eyes; you might damage them because it is not completely healed
5: be careful when you sleep because you might hit your eyes. Try to sleep with the protectors on.
Afterwards:
After the operation you need to stay away from the sun for a few months.
You will need time to get use to seeing without contacts. The strangest thing is when you are driving at night or looking at a bright light. You will see the light with streaks lol funny feeling. You will see blurry from time to time and not all the time but trust me it takes time for your eyes to heal, let a year pass before you start worrying but I am sure you will forget about it a month later.
Good luck and here are some pics.
