i think the point you're missing here is almost all these guys say that they can't get along with their women all that well in other threads. why would you take their advice?
you did break a promise - why not own up to it like an adult? apologize - after all, are you happy when someone breaks a promise to you? i bet you're not. why should she feel any different? let her bitch for 5 minutes and be nice. then replace the shoes and build a shelf to keep her shoes on above dog height.
the fact that all the women are telling you the same thing might give you a hint - women appreciate honesty. if you decide to do what the men advise you do to - lie over such a little thing - how can you expect her to trust you?
