Around 5:30 Thursday morning, an Athens cop was making the rounds near the center of the Ohio University campus.
He soon came upon a bicycle with a sticker that read "this bike is a pipe bomb" chained outside the school-owned Oasis restaurant.
Taking the sticker at its word, the cop blocked off the area and called in the bomb squad from the Columbus police 65 miles away.
The bicycle was first blasted with a high-pressure spray of water courtesy of the fire department.
Next it was dismantled using the "jaws of life." Inside the wet shredded metal they found nothing.
While the bicycle was being destroyed, a crack team of police investigators determined that the sticker bore the name of a Pensacola punk band, "this bike is a pipe bomb."
"I encourage our students and other fans of the band to not display the name of the band in such a way that it leads to safety concerns," Terry Hogan, OU dean of students, said in a news release.
By 9 a.m. all the surrounding buildings were open and the bomb squad was headed home.
