I don't even know how to check the ph.
He has been living in just a regular old bowl since I got him. I will change the bowl again right now. He doens't have white spots on him but his bowl has quite a bit of white stuff in it at the bottom and I just changed his bowl and water yesterday. Not sure what it is but guess it could just be normal fish junk but have never noticed that stuff before.
