Back in about 1999 my best friend and I were in art school together -- we did shows all of the time -- my art was at a peak... We agreed to move to NY together... We drove up there in my GTI -- half of the shit was his -- other half was mine -- we traveled light. We stayed in his dead grandmother's brownstone in Brooklyn -- but they were selling it so we only had one week to find a place to live... At that point in my life I wasn't willing to step down my standard of living -- and my best friend didn't have the kind of income that I did. Our friendship died mostly because of my greed... I was there a week -- my good friend Gustavo was supposed to hook me up with a job at DoubleClick... Really it's hard as hell to find an apartment in NY if you don't have a lot money -- and Brad Shaw had just ripped me off $1000... Most NY apartments do all kinds of background checks on you -- and being self-employed, it's not very easy to pass w/o two years of 1040's which I didn't have... My friend never got me an interview... I fell for an NYC apartment scam... I found one apartment in Hoboken but it wasn't very thrilling -- that area kindof bored the piss out of me -- besides I wasn't really looking forward to taking a fucking train to work every day -- BORING. Things were not looking up... I was out shopping one day -- and a fucking pick-pocket steals my $300 cell phone (just bought it w/o theft protection plan)... That just blew my fuse... I didn't even see it happen -- otherwise I would have had some relief kicking that fucker's ass... But I never saw the guy... I was watching one of those street artists when I was robbed. You got to watch your back all the time in NY I guess. Well after that I moved back to Florida... I had a lot of fun -- but all this time I've given up on NY. Meanwhile my friends have been forging away there -- so I'm off to exploit all of their hard work ;) This time I think I'm ready to face the "big city"... I'm going with nothing to lose to advance my art career... I'm not looking for fame -- just to be around more stimulation and creative-minded/appreciative individuals. If anyone tries to rob me I will split their skull on the pavement
