GatorB, agreed. Clearly, natural systems of long-operation are out of whack, and the variable is Us.
And, as you say, short of "self-culling", I really don't see how to bring things back into balance. But, neither can I think of anything more *counter-natural* than self-culling.
Behold, our best efforts -- zoological parks, preserves, "protected" lands etc. -- do little more than *harm* but in a less apparent (euphemistic?) way.
