Goth and fetish are fairly synonymous and interchangeable I'd say. One seems to influence the other, and many BDSM retail shops we've frequented over the years also specialize in goth gear.
But I quite agree that some of the guys can sometimes be 'out there' on the fringe. Although we specialize in weird stuff ourselves, there were a few dudes (at least I assumed they were guys, heh) the other night that even I raised an eyebrow at.
