Hating on pay pal is like the ultimate urban legend in the internet world. Everybody claims they just take your money, their only responses are STFU or too bad via customer support. Saying you will have a hard time trying to deal with customer support or talking to them.
How come all of these stories are rarely first hand and even more rarely claimed when somebody was not breaking the rules in some fashion.
I have dealt with pay pal for years. Never have I had my account frozen/money taken. I did however have one transaction that ended up reversing funds for awhile and took about twenty days to clear up. That was purely the fault of an attempted eBay scammer. Pay pal of course took the needed steps and after a reasonable period of time I got the funds back.
I have had them lock my account a few times due to suspicious log in attempts. I have also had them phone me a few times when there was considerable activity on my debit card to ensure I was making those charges.
I have dealt with email support and it was pain free, easy to follow, and I was able to get the answers I needed without some cloud of mystery or vagueness. I have also dealt with them via phone support numerous times. Not once was I put off, the person did not have an answer, nor the person could not rectify my situation quickly. I have even had them call a merchant for me to inform them yes the funds were in transit and that the bank was the cause of delay.
Then as an added plus pay pal always asks you to rate how well customer service did. Both email and or phone support do their best to get your feedback and try to see how they can better serve you.
Honestly trying to compare both companies together is akin to comparing fiber optics communication with Indian smoke signals.
