I think MythBusters did a show on how to get rid of skunk smell, and I believe that baking soda and peroxide (? not sure) worked even better than commercially available skunk remover stuff.

I found a quote from a blog on the episode:
"The hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dishsoap method is the only
effective method, according to Jamie and Adam, hosts of the show. I
saw the episode, it works on people, and I found several recipes that
are safe for pets."
