I switched sigs off back when Juicy's started taking up about 3 inches of screen, but even before that, as a matter of principle, I would never click on a sig.

The reason is that most things people promote are completely run-of-the-mill and that is especially true when it comes to things people can promote with minimal effort: in this context, just by taking a minute or two to set up a sig. Instead, I click on links within text if the text makes the product/service sound interesting, and often just because the poster has gone to the trouble of writing a decent promo piece. That alone makes him/her stand out from the crowd here and might mean they put something extra into their product/service too.
