First things first I would like to thank everyone on GFY for being awesome, even those of you who stir up drama comparable to livejournal in proportion. I never thought I would be seriously considering entering adult industry until the day someone here on GFY (which I've been lurking for some time) said that the industry that makes and sells things that people consider obsence, offensive and degrading is used to take so much shit from these people that it has developed a high standard of decency among the adult webmasters themselves. I was really intrigued and I started looking closer and closer discovering that it is, in fact, true and people here on JFY and all around are cool and laid back and generally know their shit. This triggered something in my head and I wanted to ask you the big shots a couple of questions before I make up my mind.
I originally come from the "other" huge Internet industry. I've been with greyhat SEO and online casino stuff for a couple of good years now and frankly, I find it boring, unchallenging and sometimes ethically unacceptable. I need something new and fun.
Now I'm really a web geek, PHP5, web services, SQL, Ruby / Rails, you name it. I'm a Debian nazi. I fuck with MySQL every day at work and I dream of having PostgreSQL's babies at night. Then there's emacs. My day begins with reading raw logs and running tests on my systems to see nothing is broken. I've been doing prototyping and production work in PHP for the last couple of years and I am now more or less heavily into exotic and tricky tools and automation. I ate my share of traffic analysis/routing and affiliate management here and there and quite frankly it's not all that exciting.
The only thing is, I'm clearing up some legal & tax questions yet, so I have some spare time to consider what I'll be doing and how and whether I'll be doing it at all.
So help me out please! Let me know your opinion on those ones:
1. Does this make you happy? Rather, do you have lots of fun being an adult webmaster or a program or a content producer?
2. 2257! I live in Israel. I'd love to host in US, but... 2257! Does it apply to me? Is it really the bitch it appears to be?
3. Anyone here ever worked with Israeli promoters/sponsors? Is it a pain in the ass to clear checks in/from Israel? Are my soon to be colleagues nice or a general not?
4. Do you think that you would still be doing what you're doing if it were way less profitable or even unprofitable at all?
5. D'ya think that my technical background and all-around experience with web technologies down and dirty means something in this biz? Or should I say "fuck it" and go browsing through the forum archives until I turn blue?
