At the same time the Congressional inquiry moves forward, recent polls reveal that the majority of the country now favors impeachment if the President either lied about the reasons for going to war or broke federal law with his illegal wire-tapping program. This is a clear-cut sign that the impeachment movement is becoming a decisive factor in U.S. politics.

Every President since Nixon has had some form of an impeachment threat over their head. Clinton got impeached for something stupid. It was a loophole entrapment. The Republicans had to have an impeachment for payback for what happened to Nixon. That's all it was about.

In order to impeach a president you have to prove a criminal act was committed or condoned by him. Not by his staff or some overzealous henchman.

In Nixon's case, it was G. Gordon Liddy's racist dumb ass that got them in a jam. Nixon KNEW he lied about the break in and wiretapping and goings on and KNEW if he stayed in office he'd get pinched AND go to jail. Nixon's failing was hiring goons like in those Batman tv show styles.

Bush however has plausible deniability. He didn't know the intelligence he was given was fucked up. He acted on it. What these impeachment hungry guys have to prove is that Bush knew, condoned, conspired or covered up any illegal actions. The keyword here is 'advised'. He's been given a bum steer over and over again and all he can say is "I'm sorry but I was given the wrong information!". He can get away with that.

On the other hand, if ONE or more people in his administration come forward and state otherwise, it validates major legal actions i.e. Oliver North. If there's ONE guy who would do this, I'm betting full bucks he WILL come forward cause he comes from a great patriotic family and won't set still for it. It may or may not implicate the president but it sure will nail the 'phantom menace' behind Bush.

This is just like those Star Wars movies. Too much power given to one man/administration and too many mocked up threats to justify it. The people didn't find out til it was too late.
