I've used both with the Liberty Health site coverme.com
in Canada.
We were taking 10,000 hits a hour on an insurance
system so it HAD to be solid.
The one thing we found, was check EVERYTHING twice
before putting it on the live server, and double your
server's memory from what you'd expect with just
Apache running. FastCGI gave us about 30% speed
increase over FreeBSD with soft updates turned on
on the file system.
