Execution in California Delayed Indefinitely
The execution of a convicted killer (Michael Morales) in California has been postponed indefinitely after state officials failed to comply with a Judge?s orders that stated that the lethal injection must be distributed by a medical professional.
Vernell Crittendon, a spokesperson for San Quentin State Prison, said: ?We are unable to have a licenced medical professional come forward to inject the medication intravenously, causing the life to end.?
The case came to light when the killer?s attorneys
argued that a three-part lethal injection breaks the 8th amendment banning cruel and unusual punishment, as the last two chemicals can cause severe pain if the prisoner is not fully sedated.
