I read an article that at the end of 2005 37% of American households that were online still used dial-up. In my area it's very rural and outside of the town where I live people out in the county either have to choose from dial-up or satelite which at $50 a month for 500 kbps up to $80 for a mere 1.5 Mbps, not to mention severe downloading caps and $300-$600 instalation fees, most use dial-up.
