I'm surprised that not all companies are are doing that. If ad-free crap-free pro version of ICQ came out, I can see myself paying some low annual membership fee.
Yea, you can crack almost any software, but sometimes saving a few bucks may not be worth it. Someone could very easilly be distributing a fake or hacked version of software on kazaa that posts your password on some newsgroup. Most people wouldn't even notice, untill suddenly they can't log into their accounts.
