Grew up in northern Indiana near Lake Michigan on a small farm. My parents
were both steel workers during the day and farmer-types after work. My
father would joke that he was teaching me every job that I wouldn't want
to do the rest of my life - bricklaying, barn building, roofing, dish washing,
auto body repair, welding, ditch digging, Christmas tree farming, hay bailing,
wood chopping, etc. I may have not appreciated it at the time, but I did
learn how to work long hours and to always do a task to the best of my
abilities. While the calluses are gone from my hands, the work ethic and the
pleasure of a job done well remains.
