What do you want to do? IMAP is nice for nested discrete folders, but can be a disk hog if you don't clean. It also tends to be much faster on slower links, as it pulls the headers first, and messages when you read/click on them.

POP has always been sorta evik IMHO, esp Qpopper, but thats due to being inefficient at the filesystem level as well.
