not saying it's right or wrong but if you read history, monogamy was not a factor. look at all the historical figures up until about the 20th century; multiple partners was an accepted way of life.
if people understood that you may grow apart, you may lose the attraction, you may lose common interestes and that it is ok, then you would have less marriages and far less divorces. i truly believe there are only a handful of people who can really live out the "together forever" scenario. with the internet being what it is, sex being so overt and the open infidelity of women now (seems as if more women are cheating these days then men), it is next to impossible for two people to remain together these days. that does not give someone carte blanche to cheat but it should make them aware that marriage may not be an option.
you cannot cage that which does not want to be caged.

I disagree with your "handful". I believe that a lot of it has to do with being selfish and living in the "me" society and some idiots not being able to distinguish between the fantasy of magazines/tv/porn and real life. Everyone is always looking for greener pastures...but the fact is....most pastures are exactly the same. Marriage is not something that just happens, it can be a lot of work sometimes. Almost every marriage has its good years and its bad years..problem is...some people hit a rough spot and they jump ship, never understanding that if you both work on it, times will get better.
