Joe, dont' focus on just your upper body. Find a good circut of machines in yoru local gym and get conditioned all around for a month or two.
Jumping in and doing a full blast iron routine won't do anything but make you not want to go to the gym in a few months. It happens all the time.
Once your body is ready for the hard stuff, come back here or ICQ me and I'll tell you all the "secrets" you need to know.
