250-300gb is the sweet spot in price with 250gb going for 100-110 and 300gb going for 130-140
250gb = ~2.5g/$1
300gb = ~2.3g/$1
400gb = ~1.9g/$1
500gb = ~1.4g/$1
these are based on newegg pricing
i like the seagate because of the 5 year warranty but i have killed a seagate 250 and seagate 300 in the last year. still i find them more reliable than the competition and i dont get a factory reconditioned unit when i RMA a drive, unlike some companies (maxtor and maybe others).
ive found that if i add a hdd cooler ~10-25 depending on style/brand/etc that i prolong the life of the drive.
