I guess I was expecting a bittersweet, perhaps humor tinged movie, but although it had it's moments it was labored. There were too many scenes that if edited out or replaced with ones concentrating on the central characters and brought down to about 90 minutes would make a much more enjoyable film. I was close to nodding a couple of times.

Between all the riding around we did and sitting in the theater so long my lower back was killing me and in the last 30 minutes of the movie I was thinking more how nice it would be to go lie down, so that may have clouded my positives with the movie. I'll probably give it another shot when it hits DVD or the movie channels.
Luckily I didn't have to travel far to see it. It was an interesting audience I saw it in. Almost everyone was old ladies wearing AIDS ribbons. It was like I was seeing the ghost of my christmas future.

There were some bits that really got me but I did feel that it jumped into the relationship too fast. Like there was no reason at the time it happened for it to happen from what the narrative had shown us at that point. I haven't read the story it is based on to know if there is more buildup in the story. Once that happened I was okay with the rest of the film aslong as I kept reminding myself it was the 1960's. Though, I did think a few times it was set in the same state Matthew Sheppard was killed in so perhaps it hasn't moved on all that much.

For a kick check out the IMDB message board for the movie..some people have seen it ten ore more times in the cinema. Looks like it is hitting a certain group (mostly younger) of the gay community who are just happy to be represented at all.
