Yeah, totally bro...nice area. Also West End Ave, Riverside Drive. Stay away from the East Side. The Village has some beautiful areas too.
I'm happy in Queens...Sunnyside/Woodside/Forest Hills/Bayside, more mellow out here but still some fun bars. I'm 15 - 20 minutes in by train where I am, but Bayside would be a haul.
In Brooklyn Williamsburg is popular, but always slammed for being too full of trust fund kids. That's close to the East Village by train, but probably just as pricey as Manhattan.
