Not really. It is really crowded and you have to have a VIP pass to get close to samba competitions. I have never been to carnival in Rio but I was in Sao Paulo 4 years ago and it was crazy. Friend of mine was working for Mary Kay IT department and was in Rio for carnival and it was insane. If you have a lot of money you can even get in to marching band? But I imagine it is fucking crazy no matter where you go during carnival. I?ll just hit Mardi Gras?
