I think that if most cops were bad, we would mostly fear them and not trust them. That's NOT the case in most communities. I've had good and bad experiences with them but I've never kept tabs on how many good versus bad, but I think I've had more good experiences.
One has to try not to assume that because they had problems with police that all or most are bad. I think that's a stereotype that's only probably deserving of police in specific regions.
I do agree with those that say the profession probably attracts certain types of individuals more than other occupations.
Go to Mexico and you'll see what bad cops are like. It's not that they're inherently worse, but their are economic factors at play, and the repurcussions of being a good cop in places like Mexico is harsh (be good and other officers might kill you).
