Ya money is sort of a weird gift unless it is for a wedding or a child under 16. I like to take the time to find a gift that I think someone will enjoy. In this case, since she is your ex, I think dinner is more than sufficient but if you want her to have something to take home bring a nice bottle wrapped up or a really nice candle in a bag or a card with a music/dvd store gift certificate.
