You'd be surprised how many people don't realize that drinking on
certain prescriptions is an absolute no. Even your 1 or 2 drinks you say you'd allow yourself, mixed with certain drugs, such as anti-depressants like Paxil, create an instant timebomb before you know you've even started the clock ticking.
Prescription drugs are a huge problem in this country and every other country where they are prescribed. Doctors push what their drug reps want them to push, half the time the doctor's not entirely aware of all the contraindications for the drugs he or she is prescribing.
For instance, my doctor prescribed me a cough syrup with codeine in it last year, for pneumonia. Mind you, codeine makes me puke, and I would only take the stuff before bed (I'd had the same cough syrup prescribed before a couple years ago for bronchitis). I also found out that Darvocet and Vicodin make me puke too, when my foot doctor (over that little Phx Forum accident) prescribed them after surgery, nearly 3 years ago.
Each of my doctors were made aware that the cough syrup, the vicodin and the darvocet made me puke.
But it wasn't until my pharmacist called me when they got the scrip for the cough syrup, asking me about another drug allergy I have had since I was a child. Each doctor I've used was made aware of this allergy on my chart, it was apparently a very alarming reaction and my parents took me to the ER over it.
Funny how the pharmacist was the only one in 3 years of having prescriptions that use codeine (or codeine like) ingredients, that could actually tell me that the reason I puke on it is because I'm allergic to it. Just like I'm allergic to the other medicine that's been on my chart for 30 years.
