This because Chavez isn't too bright. From a 'man of the people' he's turning out to be greedier than the previous bunches and just as sneeky as Bush in terms of 'propaganda'. His country does not want him in power however he manages to win elections. He's put all his fellow military men in power with him so there won't be a coup or retaliation from military. If truth be told, Venezuela is by far one of the most beautiful and richest countries in terms of natural beauty - you have every season, every climate. The thing the country needs is a brilliant government with people who care - Chavez is working against them - he's letting them starve.

Mmm.. I don't know the guy, but from the public statements and interviews, yes, agree he may not be too bright

He also has this incredible ego which can be an embarassment.
Don't think there is much doubt the majority of the population actually want him in power tho... It is these people who have benefited most from Chavez being where he is and this is blatantly clear for their continued support even now. It may not suit folks (including me) that may have more capitalist views, but I'd never deny anyone, especially those who had nada, their right to be governed by whoever they want.
Totally agree that Venezuela is one of the prime countries, least for lifestyle, on the planet. Hell... I'd actually be there now if it was not for this one man appearing to have a dominating influence in it's management. (I just don't trust one man to do that!
