6th Generation Vette will not directly compete with the supercars mentioned, it is a refined sports car for daily driving and GM will maintain this line as they develop rwd chassis from Cadillac.

However.. that being said, the current Z06 with modification can easily hold its own against Dodge Vipers, Prosche 4WD 911Ts, Ferrari 360 Modernas and Lambo Murcielagos, in every aspect of the performance envelope, for about a $25-35,000 investment.. including a 427cid buildup (about 460 peak horse at the tires and bags of torque), beefed clutch, stock rear and minor suspension stiffening.

Why doesn't GM just put a mild LS1 underhood? Well for one, the Vette is excluded from the gas guzzler tax. GM needs to maintain a good reputation among those who already see the Vette as irresponsible and obnoxious when it comes to environmental issues. If the Vette were not in this catagory, as I said, it will hamper Cadiallac's ability to develop and introduce the Cien, which could pave the way to better things in the future.

And from what I've heard, and I'm in the automotive industry by trade, Bob Lutz, Jon Moss and Mark Reuss at GM have some great stuff planned for the next 5-10 years.. the GTO will be no slouch, the V8 CTS will make hay out of any European counterpart.. wait until 2005 or 2006 before you start to flame Bob Lutz.
