My daughter works with the adopted Greyhound program & she has 2 herself. Most of the ones she has worked with are ones that 'didn't pass muster, and were adopted out early. I really don't know about the ones that have been on the circuit for a couple of years. I am led to believe that it is not as bad as it used to be since the society was formed & all the bad publicity.
When I was a tourist in Florida, I used to go to the FT Myers/Naples track a lot. My best days were when I just drew numbers out of a hat. One afternoon when setting in the grandstand, I dropped my program to the open area below. I had just won the daily double, so of course I was convinced that my pre-picked numbers were gold...ahahahhaha I ran down the steps like a maniac & grabbed my program out of a guys hands that had just bent over to pick it up. All my friends in the stands were laughing their asses off. Well, I only had one other winner in the whole day. If you want to go to the track and just have some fun & not make or lose any money - just bet a favorite to show. You will spend all day picking up your $2,50 to make another $2 bet:-)
Of course the $6.00 boxed quinella is either make or break.... That is my real weakness, trying to pair a longshot with a favorite - so the paybacks are decent. Now that I live down here, I only go when I have company to entertain.
