Wrong. Things snowball really easily online. Dozens and dozens of media companies have people whose only job is to sift through piles and piles of shit looking for interesting talking points, products and events that will give 60 seconds worth of laughs on prime time or fill up talking points on radio. I've been interviewed by tech tv, on US radio etc purely from having an interesting website. All it takes from there is for other media to see it on the initial researching media and it becomes a real story. This guy would have had dozens of unsolicited media inquiries in his inbox every day.
The media NEEDS these type of stories to sell ads on.. He doesn't NEED to manipulate the media any more.. he's already got the maximum amount of money out of it.
