I've spent 28 years in major N. & S. California cities, 1 year in Hawaii. Having spent 2 years in the Boston area, I'd have to say:
It all depends on what kind of person you are.
That said, I'm sure you'll appreciate the greater personal freedom, unless you end up in L.A.
L.A. will be a good place to live again when we run out of fossil fuels. Good parts are Santa Monica, B.H., Topanga Canyon, Glendale, Westwood, Manhattan Beach (sorta), Palos Verdes, and Newport. It's a giant oxygen bar.
