Danny,

I agree with you. I think, if I remember correctly, that you and I played a very similar style of music in the late 80's and early 90's. Probably even had some of the same influences like Malmsteen, Dimeola, and Holdsworth.

I love Dimeola. His music moves me in both an emotional way and a technical way. Like "Race with the Devil on a Spanish Highway" by Al Dimeola. It's a mood that's created and I connect to it.

A guy like Malmsteen. Well, he moves me technically too. But also emotionally. But some people listen to it and they don't connect with it at all. It is too furious or they dismiss it as all fast and furious but no emotion. Yngwie does play with a emotion. A lot of it. But it's not blues emotion. It's his own thing and I get it.

Then there are a lot of stars where technique is
not important to them at all. They are just doing their thing. For example, I watched the Britney Spears concert (from Vegas) on tv the other night.
Now I don't care for her music much. I wouldn't buy a CD but I had no doubt from watching her that she really cared to put on a good show and to connect with her audience. Mostly through her dancing. Some songs she lip synched. Some she actually sang. But who cares? Her audience didn't care. Those people looked like they were having a GREAT time. It was definitely a very entertaining show and visually beautiful (the choreography, the sets. the "rain").

Fortunately, there are 6 billion people in this world and that produces much variety in both performance and taste. When I played guitar I loved when the audience related to what I was doing but it was REALLY COOL when musicians were impressed by what I was doing. I really got off on that. I understand that feeling. Both are genuine.

I like a lot of music. Some I don't like. I get what Labret listens to. I totally get it. It moves me in my own way. It makes me feel violent and I like that feeling. I fucking love a mosh pit, though I haven't been in one in years. I love banging bodies and trying to knock the other guy down. Testosterone madness. That's what *I* get from it. He probably gets something else out of it.
