Asus is a kick ass brand. their hardware has been in almost every brand known to man. Granted you don't see Asus advertised in the weekly circular for Best Buy but i'd bet that anyone with two computers in their household has at least one Asus component.
Lite-On is a rock solid company. My second burner was a Lite-On and I've had many since. When Sony gave up their dvd burner manufacturing, Lite-On took it over and now make all their components. Kick ass company.
