To be honest Brad, generally speaking ya probably would not appreciate hotels actually in San Jose - unless you wanted to rent a room by the hour.
There are loads of nice places just outside the city - within 15 driving time to the center. You may want to check out the Palacio which is half way between the airport and city center. Google for "Barceló San Jose Palacio". It's nothing special, but does have all usual facilities and I think it may be 5 star - but that was probably awarded by Guillermo, the owner
