Internext is still the "big gorilla" and has the power. A crappy internext still outdraws all other shows in the year pretty much combined. That can change, and I think this year was the first time that internext saw such a sizable decrease not only in the floor, but in the number of people through the doors.
We could easily poll companies here who sent less staff, less hangers on, and less reps to the show because of the costs involved in putting them there. I myself missed my first AVN show since maybe 97, because I couldn't justify the insane expense level versus return (return over what I could get here or on other boards, at other events, etc).
Now, if AVN is truly listening, they will find a way between now and Miami to make the Miami show something truly to remember, making it larger than ever, and retaking their long standing as the top shows on the schedule. I think that this year's Pheonix Forums and Cybernet shows will turn out to be significantly better shows than the show that just passed.
