The F.C.C. killed commercial radio, and I am not referring to the fines and threatens of indeceny charges, but rather the changing of the rule that restricted a company to owning no more than one AM, one FM and one TV station in any given market. In some areas now Clear Channel not only owns all the broadcast media but the billboards as you drive down the road and sometimes the local paper. They slap a "one size fits all" format on the stations that doesn't flex for local flavor so you now have the same homogenous crap sounding radio from coast to coast.
