Most hosting companies have both, desktop servers or rackmounted servers.
Personally I think you should go with a rackmount server. Desktop components
are not made to be used 24/7/365, things like powersupplies, fans and cooling
units are not made unlimited use. You might have luck but rackmount servers
were build to be used 24/7, especially power supplies, fans and coolers are
different from normal desktop component and thus last longer and perform better.
