Yeah, thats why at the New York premier of the movie, George Lucas goes up to Peter Jackson, and the first thing Lucas says to Peter is, "You've raised the bar."
The CGI and special effects are light years ahead of everyone else. There were only a few times in the entire movie that it got spotty, and one of them was the bronto chase when the brontos rounded the mountain bend. And I think the only reason it got spotty those few times was because there was just so very much CGI to contend with. You'd swear Kong himself was alive, it was so well done.
If you go into the movie wanting to see something like "Raiders of the Lost Ark", something spectacular, you'll come out elated with what you saw. Not only that, there are some very special touches in the film, some unexpectadly moving moments that come out of nowhere. But to complain about the overall CGI in this movie is just ridiculous and silly. I think even George Lucas would be laughing at that comment, especially with his ILM special effects studio trying now to catch up with Jackson's WETA studio.
