man, my heart goes out to this woman

Mother pleads for babies' ashes

A devastated mother has begged thieves to return the ashes of her two baby boys that were kept in a safe stolen from her house.

Michaela Bryce, 20, from Little Hulton, Greater Manchester, also appealed for the return of jewellery with photos of sons Kai and Tyler, who died in 2003.

"I just want somebody to show a bit of remorse," she said.

Insp Andy Sutcliffe of Greater Manchester Police said the theft was beyond belief.

Kai and Tyler were born in November 2003 suffering from twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, a rare condition which means one twin gets too many nutrients whilst the other gets too few.

Kai was stillborn but Tyler, who weighed 1lb 7oz (652g) and lived for two more weeks.

Michaela and partner Jav, 26, always planned to bury their sons' ashes.

Their heartache was eased five months ago by the birth of a baby boy named Kamron.

The ashes were taken in a burglary at the couple's home in Eastham Way, earlier this month.

Michaela said: "This has absolutely devastated me and my family."

The couple knew before the twins were born they would die because of the condition, caused by a disease of the placenta.

Michaela added: "When I was pregnant we knew there was a problem but we were always hoping and expecting something good to come out of it. We prayed Tyler would get better but he didn't and it was so sudden.

"We have always wanted to bury the twins' ashes and get them a headstone but the moment just hasn't been right. It is not something you can rush into and we wanted to wait until everything felt better."

Insp Sutcliffe said: "Perhaps they didn't realise what the item was, but I would urge those responsible to search their consciences and return the ashes immediately."
