Its not as bad as it used to be. 25 years ago in the UK it was awful but its pretty much cleared up. If any supporter chants racist abuse now they are invariably caught on cctv, prosecuted, get a criminal record plus are banned for life from football stadiums. That tends to keep them in check.

A lot of the other "major" leagues have ironed it out as well although there are still the odd incidents. Lately it seems to have been more the former Eastern European nations that need to sort it out, along with places like Turkey. The governing bodies of football though will come down harder in the future and in time they will see a reduction in incidences too.
