I believe the fact that he sponsors terrorism, harbors terrorists, and will someday soon have access to nuclear weapons are three reasons why the US wants to fuck his shit up. It would be quite disastrous is he managed to start a nuclear war, or even dropped a bomb on, say, Washington DC.
Typical of the world, and people in general, no one wants to act to stop this from happening until we're sure he has these capabilities. So as soon as he blows up a city, then the rest of the world will get off their asses and do something.
