I think the customers partner threatened him, I wouldn't put up with that either. I would of paid him and then closed his account within a couple days.
Funny I have been threatened twice by hosting customers. The first one is still with us because we are afraid to cancel him and he's more chill now. And the second we gave him 7 days to move refunded the difference.
Once time this guy threatened to kill me if we didn't take down a website with his wifes details on it. That was gnarly
