I always had normal birthdays. Normal amounts of presents, etc. But now that I'm doing pretty well for myself I've started asking family not to buy anything for me for my birthday or Christmas either one. I'd rather see them spend the money on extra presents for kids, know what I mean?

The very best presents are always sentimental anyways. And nobody is better at that than my son. He always finds the perfect gift. Last year he got me a small ceramic turtle. The reason? Earlier in the year he and I found a turtle on the side of the road, named him "Awful Alvin" and rescued him. We found a great place for him to live: a protected pond. The ceramic turtle he bought was to remind me of he and I finding "Awful Alvin" together. Coming from a just-turned-5-year-old, that was touching.

Thanks to all those wishing happy birthday. And thanks to my baby for starting this thread. I love you.
