Exactly since there is zero evidence except speculation.
From what I understand given a almost endless range of probabilities that our universe presents - I can't really see anything special about the evolution of life on earth.
There could be billions of planets that at one time or another harvested some form of life.
On top of the that our knowledge is limit to within our universe.
Our universe could very well be a mere sub-atomic partical in a much grander universe, it could even be something that we can't comprehend altogether
And we will probably never have the resources to figure this out.
ID is in my opinion is just another attempt for a simple answer to a complex question
This is how I feel about all religion - to me its equivalent and just as bizarre as the tribes who used to sacfice virgins to their Gods. Religion is merely evolving and that all this ID really is.
