Indeed! What's of greater note is that America doesn't have the surplus to rescue the rest of the world anymore. The war in Iraq and the disasters here have drained us dry. We're still not done fixing up people who suffered hurricanes from 3 years ago much less the victims of Katrina.
It's a year since the great tsunami and at least now people are aware of the warning signs so the death toll will be less. Yet the devestation in lives in Pakistan is a testament to what happens when you use shortcuts in construction in direct violation of the scientific agreed upon standards. That death toll is inexcusable. Because there are so many of us humans disasters claim mega lives so we need to stand fast and keep a fair weather eye out.
