I just observed one of the top-10 skies of my life, I kid you not. The bad news is I failed
to produce a picture of it. The loss is so great, and I am so wracked by feelings of
inadequacy that I am coming to GFY as a kind of therapy -- so forgive me for this intrusion
into your evening, but I need to bend an ear. If you say nothing, I can deceive myself you
were listening intently the whole time--

Deal?
This is an Image from my Thanskgiving trip to deej's, up in Oregon. If you don't recall the
thread, this was the place where anything from the Blair Witch Project to Friday the 13th to
any of the X-Files episodes set up in the Northwest that begin with some fucked up shit
happening to some dork in the Woods.
I took the pic the morning after TurkeyNight, when I wandered out around 10:00AM to see what
the place looked like during the day. It was still pretty magical. That was maybe only the
thrid or fourth time in my life I spent the night somewhere deep enough into the woods and
remote enough from civilization to bring out the really BIG spirits at night. I don't know if
it's becasue it's far away in those places or whether it's because big spirits=old
spirits=virgin woods -- but that's where you'll find them.
That mound of snow up there, I believe was involved in the haunting of lovely young lady the
night before. Her name was Jesss. Nothing too nasty or unappealing. Just plain scary. And
she got scared. Fact, she left...
Now this sky I missed taking a picture of tonight (I grabbed the "bad" memory card") was
unlike any I have ever seen. The moon is still pretty full. And there was this... [you know
what, I think I'm gonna venture a sketch]
There was a really odd streak of cloud in the sky. But the sky was very dark and that streak
of cloud would not have been visible, but for the immense white glow of the nearly-full moon.
The moon was itself shrouded in mist, so it made a great white globe of glowingness --
This globe of light was declining in the sky, exactly as if "setting" behind the "horizon"
created in the sky by the cloud-streak. Those clouds were really, really weird. The sky was
quite clear, everywher else. It had that deep, inky blue with little, tiny pinpricks ofstars.
But over on the moon-side of the sky, this weird streak was just hanging there. The rest of
the sky was so crystal clear, it gave the cloud streak "incredible solidity", by contrast.
Very, very 3D. So the moon is coming down into this darker dash of sky and it's doing the
thing that the sun does when it goes down behind a flat Kansas plain, it's casting off different shades and intensities of grey, white and blue.
I rushed in to grab the Camera, yelled at Lauren that she should come out, but she was blase, so I said fuck you. I got off three shots that sucked and one at the end that might have been alright. I leaned in closer to the side of the building, which is a dark earthy red in color, and turned on the flash so I would pick up some of the side of the building, receding away from the lens, and give the image a sense of depth.
I really appreciate you indulging me this way, GFY --
