Good on you. Getting in trouble with the law is a huge drain on you. What he did was essentially assult and the cops should have been called on him.

Actually I once threw a full pitcher of beer at a woman.
It was at a humor show in a bar... and she wouldn't shut the fuck up. The guy on the stage told her 3 times to shut up, the radio animator went to see her peersonally to tell her to shut up, then the bouncers did.
The owner wasn't there and she was the daughter of one of his employe so they didn't wanted to throw her out. I went and told her to shut the fuck up and there was other people that didn't care about what she had to say in a very clear and loud way . She answered like a bitch, so I threated her like a bitch...
She jumped in my face trying to choke me (was kinda funny actually ... only couple scratches), my ex gf grabbed her and got her out of my face.
